I have recently purchased a few carbon fiber parts for my F82 BMW M4. I went ahead with RW Carbon because of its fair pricing and solid online reputation. There were several options with a broad range of price points, and RW Carbon fits right in the middle between them all.
Products that I purchased:
The shipping cost became $110 after the salesperson worked with me to combine the boxes into just two total. The total damage to my wallet was $2700 for all parts. It's not the cheapest route to make your vehicle look different from other F82 M4s. RW Carbon review came about during my research for the best BMW M4 mods article. Still, I was already familiar with the name of this company from seeing BMW folks posting their carbon fiber (CF) parts on Instagram.
Important: this doesn't only apply to RW Carbon company, but should be taken as a general practice. Please don't forget to take images of the boxes that your parts arrive in, how they are wrapped inside of the boxes, as well as how they look when they are unwrapped. Sometimes things happen during shipping and the parts company will need those images to file a claim with shipping carrier, in my case it was FedEx.
Overall, the shopping experience with RW Carbon was pleasant. The salesperson wasn't being pushy, nor did he try to add any additional upsells. He answered all my questions and worked with me on the overall cost of parts and shipping.
The only three issues that I had during the whole process were the following:
Other than that, I'm happy with everything else. The parts look great and make the car less dull-looking, even if it's all black.
RW Carbon folks did a great job packaging my parts. Packages were shipped via FedEx and packaged extremely well. RW Carbon's shipping department ensured that the boxes did not collapse while being shipped and parts were not damaged (mostly). However, anything can happen when it comes to shipping parts from California. And in my unlucky case, it did.
The carbon fiber diffuser came in with a cracked clear coat in one spot. I contacted the RW Carbon salesperson and was told to take pictures of the parts wrapped in packaging and the damage before they can start a parts exchange process. This sounded backward since you will notice the damage once the package is unwrapped from all safety packaging layers. However, I should have known better than to take pictures of the unboxing and unwrapping process; you should, too.
This is what RW Carbon's policy for damage claims is according to their Final RW Carbon Damage Claim document: "All damage claims must be submitted within 7 days of when the tracking number shows the item has been delivered. Please email info@rwcarbon.com with your order number in the subject line, and a brief description of the damage in the body of the email and attach all required photos."
It is smart to check your parts for any damage as soon as they arrive. While I was within the
seven-day claim filing period, I didn't want to bother not having my carbon fiber parts on the car for another. God knows how many days the return process would take. If it were more than clearcoat damage, I would have shipped the diffuser back, but since I noticed it after we started slicing wires open, it became too much of a hassle. The clearcoat touch-up brush did wonders for the diffuser later on.
The parts installation process was fairly smooth. All the parts that came in were of the right size and fit well. The only thing that might have slowed down the installation process was that the pre-cut holes in the diffuser didn't match up with my rear bumper around the exhaust area. However, as long as the part was the right size, we got it on, and it looked good.
The diffuser came with downloadable instructions where it was stated that the installer should have the following: "10mm Socket, 8mm Socket, Plastic Trim Tool, Masking Tape, Electrical Tape, 4x Self Stripping Tap Connector, 3ft of Dualstranded Wire." To install the diffuser with proper wiring, you will need a minimum of 4 feet of dual-stranded wire, and it's probably even better if you have 5 feet. I made a mistake slicing out the exact 3 feet of wire, realizing it needed more and having to recut it again.
Besides the few annoying things mentioned above, the rest of the instructions for diffuser installation were on point. Keep in mind that if you do not order a diffuser with a F1 type of brake light in it, you will probably avoid most of the headaches that I had to deal with. Putting this diffuser on, took us longer than installing the front lip, side skirts and the trunk spoiler all together. But it did turn out great.
The front lip, side skirts, and rear spoiler all fit like a glove. There were zero issues with all of them. I suggest buying additional double-sided 3M tape since RW Carbon doesn't send you enough. While they send some with the parts, it is not sufficient.
The fitment of RW Carbon front lip spoiler is as perfect as I've ever experienced. This being the third carbon fiber lip that I have placed on one of the M4s, I am really pleased with how it looks as well as how easily it fit onto the front bumper. I have driven thousands of miles since installing the front lip and haven't had any issues of clearcoat cracking or even rock chips damaging it. Great quality product by RW Carbon.
Trunk lid carbon fiber spoiler by RW Carbon was another part that fit perfectly. I did have to buy additional 3M double-sided tape to ensure that the spoiler is properly secured to the trunk, however I did not run into any issues when installing it. Quality of the product itself was great again, and it did not feel or look cheap like the stuff that you would get from eBay does.
I was a bit worried at first that the side skirts might not be of perfect length or will not fit properly onto the vehicle. However, RW Carbon side skirts did not disappoint. The fitment was perfect and they look great. Once again, needed extra 3M double-sided tape to make sure that these beauties don't fly away at faster speeds. My technique here was to align any touchpoints of the side-skirts to the body of the vehicle with 3M double-sided tape, and then top that off with self tapping screws every 12 inches. Thousand miles later, they look great and are securely attached to the vehicle.
So, who should buy parts from RW Carbon to improve the aesthetics of their vehicle? Simply put, people like me. If you love quality things but aren't willing to spend premium dollars, then you'll love RW Carbon products. The picture above is my car stuffed with RW Carbon parts on the way to get them installed.
RW Carbon specializes in providing high-quality carbon fiber parts for various vehicles, catering to a specific segment of car enthusiasts and professionals. RW Carbon fits the budget of cautious car enthusiasts who want the best bang for their buck. I happen to fit these criteria, and I strongly believe that most of the car guys also fit the same criteria.
I wouldn't place RW Carbon at the level of IND Distribution, but I would also not shun them away. They bring great quality products to the table at a very affordable cost. You can confidently use RW Carbon products even if you are building a show car. You will not have odd gaps and misfit parts on your vehicle like if you bought stuff on eBay.
However, if you want the bragging right of spending the biggest dollar amount on modifying your car, then RW Carbon might not be the best fit for you. You should look into products of IND Distribution, Dinan, ABT, and others (depending on what kind of car you have).
Pros
My experience with RW Carbon has been pretty good. The company has been responsive even if faced with customers' raising issues. Product quality was good, with barely any issues. RW Carbon serves the largest car community demographic, which are the car guys that want their cars to look great by putting great products on them, without breaking the bank. Will I shop at RW Carbon again? Certainly.
